So how did it go?

Just a little behind here! But Lillian Mae has made her appearance! It was an amazing day, and below is her birth story

The Day: Saturday, August 26th, 2017.

When did it start? 5:20am

Contraction, I wasn’t 100% sure of it, but had a feeling that what woke me up that morning was a wonderful contraction. It was a mix between a stomach cramp and a mild menstrual cramp. I don’t believe any mother who has given birth can truly explain what they feel like. After laying in bed for another 30 minutes, another one came on. Then I knew for sure that I was having contractions. They weren’t strong by any means but were stronger then the Braxton Hicks I was having in the weeks prior.

Not long after this, Daisee woke up (who has been sleeping with us lately). Then Dan woke up and I told him what was going on. Since we would have to find somewhere for the girls to go, Dan was sure that we should get going to the hospital. I was a little hesitant because I did not want to go too early and be sent home. I told him to get anything done that needed to in case we were gone all day. He went out and fed the chickens and some other things.

The contractions got stronger and more frequent. By 7:00am, I was calling my dad to see if he could meet us at the hospital to get the girls because I felt like it was go time! After that phone call, I balled my eyes out. Why? I’m not 100% sure if it was just hormones or if it was the fact that I was very excited to meet this little girl! I made Dan wake Ava up because of the tears. I didn’t want to scare here our look like a blubbering mess!

By 7:30am, we were out the door! Both girls awake and dressed and ready for their baby sister to come into the world! About halfway through our 25 minute drive, I told Dan, “I’m glad you convinced me to go, it’s definitely going to happen today!”

We arrived at the hospital at 8:00am. Dad got the girls in the truck (Daisee was not happy about leaving her mommy!), then into the hospital we went.

On the first cervical check, I was 4cm, 80% effaced with contractions coming every 5 minutes for 1 minute. Baby girl was definitely head down and engaged! After drawing blood, getting my IV in and getting those awesome doppler belts on me, they said I could get up and walk around or do whatever and they would check on me here and there unless I requested medications.

About 1 hour later, the contractions were pretty intense. I had asked the nurse when they would check my cervix again and she said they would check if I requested any pain medications. I didn’t want my baby to come into the world doped up, so I waited a little while and requested an epidural. At that point I was 5cm dilated, so I was definitely progressing. I was a little hesitant on requesting the epidural because it can slow down contractions. It was clear that things were progressing so the OB was not at all worried about that.

I received my epidural at 11:00am and I would say it took full affect at 11:30am. Not long after taking affect, my OB broke my water. She said I was easily 6cm dilated. Everything went fine with this and she told me to get some rest because she wouldn’t be surprised if she was born by noon!

I slept for about a half hour, Dan did as well. I don’t think I slept soundly because I could still feel the pressure of the contractions, just not the pain. I was also feeling other types of pressure that would definitely indicate that she’s ready to come out!

I had Dan page the nurse and OB because I was pretty sure it was go time. Sure enough, my OB checked me and I was 10cm dilated and basically 100% effaced. She was ready to come out!

After a few pushes, her head came out pretty easily. They noticed after that, that her hand was up by her shoulder. This was a minor issue. They said it should be fine as long as she’s using her arm after birth but it might take a little more effort for her shoulders to come out.

Then, at 12:19pm, on Saturday August 26th, 2017, Lillian Mae was born! She was a whole 8 pounds 8 ounces and 20.5 inches long! She wasn’t screaming/crying as much as they wanted when she came out, but after a while, she perked up! Dan was able to cut her umbilical cord (Daisee had pooped before she came out and Dan wasn’t able to cut hers).

Once she was cleared by the pediatric nurse, they handed her back over to mama! I was so happy to have her in my arms and had been waiting for that day since I found out I was pregnant. After awwing and oooing over her, we decided to give breastfeeding a try. She was PERFECT! She latched right on like a champ!

I am so blessed to have two amazing daughters and an amazing step-daughter! I look forward to watching them grow and seeing the amazing women they become!

Welcome to the world Lillian!

Don’t take a bath!

IMG_016339 weeks! My gosh this pregnancy has flown by! It may not have always seemed that way but now thinking back, it really has gone fast!

How far along? 39 weeks!

Total weight gain/loss: 29 pounds gained!

Stretch marks? Nope! Didn’t get them with daisee and hopefully it stays that way!

Sleep: sleep is up and down still. I slept like a rock Monday night, but I thank acupuncture for that!

Best moment this week: I had my weekly OB appointment today! I’m 2-3cm dilated, 50% effaced! That’s awesome news! Basically once she decides to lock in, it will be go time! My doctor told me that if I start having any pain that I shouldn’t take a bath! (Hence the title) but instead I should be heading to the hospital! 😁🙏🏻

Movement: yup, she’s a crazy little one! Even though she’s running out of room!

Food cravings: nothing right now!

Anything make you queasy or sick? nope!

Labor signs: lots and lots and lots of Braxton Hicks! Some more uncomfortable then others, which is a good thing! As said above, things seem to be moving along nicely 😁

Belly button in or out: way out there! Haha

Wedding rings on or off? on still and I’m hoping it stays that way!

Happy or moody? Happy! Very anxious to meet this little girl!

Weekly wisdom: i don’t really have anything this week! Just super anxious!

Milestones: hearing my OB say, “I wouldn’t be surprised if she was born this weekend!” Stay tuned!

If I don’t go in this weekend, my next appointment is Wednesday at 4:00pm!

We’re in the home stretch!

Phew! 35 weeks today! The time has definitely flown, except these last weeks! I’m just so ready to meet this little girl! But while talking to my cousin this weekend, I realized that in a second pregnancy (or maybe even the ones after that) you don’t notice the pregnancy symptoms and milestones quite as much as with your first. I guess you just (for the most part) know what to expect and go with it. Whereas with your first, you’re like OMG is that a kick? Omg I can’t lay on my back, OMG I shouldn’t eat this! All of those things I really didn’t notice nearly as much as I did with Daisee. That could be a good or not so good thing! But this little lady doesn’t seem to mind because she’s ALWAYS active!

So! Onto the questions 🙂

How far along? 35 weeks today!

Total weight gain/loss: according to my health record, I’ve gained 23 pounds total. Close to what I gained with Daisee but might pack on about 5-6 more pounds.

Maternity clothes? Yup, there’s no wearing my regular clothes anymore, except gym shorts and t-shirts.

Stretch marks? Nope! Hopefully stays that way!!!

Sleep: ohhh sleep! What’s that again? You’re telling me at some point of my life I’ve slept through the night?? HA. Sleep has been up and down, and I don’t think it’s all pregnancy. I wake up and have to turn to the other side because of hip cramps, but nothing too serious. Or I wake up on my back, which I knew would happen because I am a die-hard back sleeper. I’ll be happy when I can do that again! Daisee has also been a stinker lately with not sleeping all night in her bed. And because we’ve been so busy lately, Dan and I have just been letting her sleep with us instead of fighting her to go back to her bed. We will probably regret letting her get into that habit, but we can live with it for now 🙂

Best moment this week: I’m not sure that it happened within the last week but baby girl has been getting the hiccups lately! Definitely a milestone that I’ve noticed and now remember how annoying it can be at times! I’ve figured out that coffee gives her the hiccups no matter what form I drink it in. I don’t drink much right now, mostly because it also gives me heartburn as well. But I love a little caffeine on a Monday morning after a busy weekend! Another big this this week, Ava turns 9!!! So crazy to think that a little under 7 years ago is when this beautiful, smart girl came into my life and I wouldn’t change that for the world!

Movement: yup, she’s still just as active as when I first started feeling the little flutters! They say it might go down a little bit now that she’s running out of room, but I beg to differ. It’s probably because no matter what way she moves, she’s hits on of my organs or stretches my skin a little more! I don’t mind 🙂 I know I”ll miss this when she’s in my arms!

Food cravings: nothing really! Cheese has been something I guess I’ve just wanted more lately but I don’t know that I’d call it a craving necessarily.

Anything make you queasy or sick? not really

Labor signs: Not “labor” but lots of Braxton-Hicks! I’m definitely feeling the pressure from this little girl and am hoping that’s a sign that she might be a little early 🙂 At this point, she would be safe to come at anytime! But if she waits another week or two, that would be ok too 🙂

Belly button in or out: definitely out! The bands on maternity shorts/capris/pants are super annoying to have to pull up all the time, BUT, they’re nicely keeping my belly button in check. Haha. But at this point, I really don’t care!

Wedding rings on or off? On almost always. There are times when I swell a little bit and need to have it off for a while but otherwise I haven’t had to keep it off.

Happy or moody? I would say I’m happy most of the time but I can feel myself fake it sometimes too. My patience runs thin pretty easily but I just have to tell myself to walk away for a little bit. Hard to do sometimes with a 2.5 year old though!

Weekly wisdom: if it gives you heartburn, don’t eat/drink it!

Milestones: hiccups and knowing that baby girl could come anyday and she would be ok!

Next appointment: TOMORROW! Then onto weekly appointments! That means I have 5 appointments left!! 😀

(Almost) 30 weeks and counting!

Holy smokes! I’m 3/4 of the way to meeting my baby girl! She’s definitely in there and lets me know that! She likes to kick me in the ribs all the time! But I don’t mind 🙂 She’s a very active little girl and I have a feeling we are going to have our work cut out for us!

How far along? 29 weeks 4 days (30 weeks Monday!)

Total weight gain/loss? Gained 20lbs

Maternity clothes? oh yes! Pretty much everything unless I wear athletic shorts or regular t-shirts, everything is maternity wear!

Stretch marks? Nope, crossing my fingers!

Sleep: sleep has been alright. I don’t have problems falling asleep or anything but tend to wake up a few times at night either to pee or just to switch my sleep position. Plus Daisee has been coming in by us at least once a night and tends to stay in bed with us. Usually cus’ we’re just too tired to take her back to bed 😛

Best moment this week:  She’s head down! Which could mean absolutely nothing, because she could still flip around at this point! But it was still cool to know where she’s at in there.

Have you told your family and friends? Yup! Everybody knows 🙂

Movement: IT NEVER STOPS, seriously. She will take maybe a 1/2 hour break and then she’s awake again just kicking away. She will typically wake me up overnight if I happen to be laying on my back. She’s just not a fan of sleeping that way apparently!

Food cravings: Lately it’s been whatever I see on TV or on a billboard or something. Someone talked about McDonald’s one day and so at my lunch break, I drove to Lake Mills and got some McDonald’s because that’s all I wanted. Haha! But lately everything has been tasting good and there isn’t much that I don’t want to eat!

Anything make you queasy or sick: still not a fan of Jimmy John’s, granted I haven’t tried it since my “turkey fish sandwich” but don’t plan to anytime soon! I haven’t been a fan of leftover foods lately either.

Leakage: nope

Labor signs: nope, but I’ve been having BIG TIME Braxton Hicks lately. Everything’s definitely getting ready!

Belly button in or out? I think I can finally say that it’s all the way out! Definitely sticks out if I’m not wearing a tank top under my shirt or maternity pants with the belly band.

Wedding rings on or off? On, but with this heat coming, I’m sure that may change! 😦

Happy or moody most of the time? Happy! But I can get set off pretty easily. My patience has been a little low.

Weekly Wisdom: feet up, drink that water!

Milestones: baby girl’s head down! And we’ve narrowed down a name 🙂

Next Appointment: June 20th with Dr. Nguyen. I’m an every other weeker now! 🙂

Rock that bump!

Phew it’s been far too long since I’ve gotten online to give an update!

I think I’m going to do another comparison blog post! That seemed pretty fun last time I did it, might as well again 🙂

Baby Girl is the size of a cauliflower! 13.5″ long and 1.46 pounds (roughly) According to my pregnancy app, she is enjoying her new sense of equilibrium and now know which was is up and which is down. She is also growing more fat and more hair! (hopefully that doesn’t mean reflux!)

How far along? 25 weeks 3 days (comparing the information based on when I was 24 weeks and 3 days with Daisee)

Total weight gain/loss: Daisee-+10, Baby Girl-(+12)

Maternity clothes? Daisee-yes, I tried to wear a pair of jean capris that weren’t maternity…yea not so good! I even had a rubberband holding the button closed. Baby Girl- maternity bottoms all the time. I can get away with wearing some of my scrub pants but seriously had to resort to maternity scrubs 😦 at least they weren’t much more then regular scrub pants!

Stretch marks? Nope with both! (crossing my fingers this time though, I’ve popped much quicker!)

Sleep: Daisee- knock on wood! I have been sleeping pretty well lately! Still kind of tired during the day, but usually 8:00pm comes around and I’m wiped! Baby Girl: ohh sleep…sleep hasn’t come quite as easy with this pregnancy. I’m normally a back sleeper so sleeping on my side had been the hard part. I get major hip pain and have to flip flop throughout the night. But I believe it’s getting better!

Best moment this week: Daisee: our biggest excitement lately is that Ava was able to feel her sister last weekend!! It was such an awesome thing! She was like “Ali, what are you doing with my hand?” I was like “don’t you want to feel your sister kick?” Then she sat super still! Baby Girl: nothing too exciting this week necessarily but exciting new since last post is that we found out that we’re having another girl! I was on team boy, but I think that was more because everyone was telling me that I was having a boy! No worries there! She’s healthy and very active!!!

Food cravings: Daisee-anything with cucumber, still :). Otherwise, I’ve finally been able to eat normal! I have even had chicken, oh yeah! Baby Girl- No major cravings exactly, more just if I see a commercial with Oreo’s, I want Oreo’s. My appetite is back though! I’ve had every kind of meat. It’s pretty awesome. I feel like this is better this time around. Thank goodness!!!

Anything make you queasy or sick? Daisee-Nothing right now, knock on wood! Baby Girl-no, nothing in particular!

Have you started to show yet? Daisee-for sure! still don’t look very pregnant when I’m in my black scrubs but the PA I work with can definitely tell! Baby Girl- definitely, unlike with Daisee, I’ve had people that don’t know me comment on me being pregnant. One of them (which was male) said “uh oh! Congratulations!” Which seemed a little odd….

Belly button in or out? Daisee- still somewhat in, it’s getting really flat though! Baby Girl: it’s slowly making it’s way out! It doesn’t show through a shirt or anything, but definitely has come out

Wedding rings on/off? Still on for both!

Happy or moody most of the time: Daisee: I’m definitely happier, but don’t piss me off….cus you won’t win!  Baby Girl: I’ve been pretty happy throughout the whole pregnancy! Definitely more emotional especially watching stuff on tv that is emotional but probably not cry-worthy!

Weekly Wisdom: Daisee-Heat womps when pregnant (funny, now I’m just seeing the start of it!) Baby Girl- lay off the donuts kid!

Milestones: Daisee-Ava being able to feel her little sister kick! 🙂 she will be such an amazing big sister!  Baby Girl: no real milestone except that I can DEFINITELY tell the difference between digestion and baby girl kicking 🙂

Next appointment: 5/23/17 with Dr. Nguyen! I believe it will be glucose testing time! Hopefully I won’t have to go in for the 3 hour testing like I did with Daisee!!!

Let there be movement!

Almost halfway done! (just depends if you ask me or my OB). I say that because my dating ultrasound gave me a different due date then what I originally figured off of my period. Like a weeks difference. I just go off of what I originally got before my first US. 🙂

Baby is the size of a mango this week! Roughly 5.98″ from crown to rump and 8.5oz. Getting pretty hefty! Haha. There’s no doubt that there’s a child in there, mostly cus’ I can feel it! It usually catches me off guard, but I love it!

How far along? 19 weeks and 1 day!

Total weight gain/loss? I’ve gained 2-3 pounds

Maternity clothes? Yes, definitely pants. My scrub pants are even starting to get uncomfortable! Shirts are still okay.

Stretch marks? Nope

Sleep: oh man, I can sleep pretty good for the most part but the dreams I have! Holy smokes! I’ve always had weird dreams all my life but these are a little insane. I can usually pin point what thought a dream came from (i.e. thought of a classmate from school or saw a picture and bam they’re in my dream), but these are just obnoxious. I haven’t the slightest clue where they come from. Maybe between reading the “Dorothy Must Die” series and just starting “Harry Potter” (yes I’m a little behind on that). I’m also having a hard time staying comfortable. I’m normally a back sleeper so telling myself to just sleep on my side is SO hard!

Best moment this week: I ate a pork chop last night for supper! Guys, this is huge. Protein, especially meat, has been the hardest thing for me to eat, as it was with Daisee! Not saying that I’m going to eat pork chops every night, but hey this is a step up! Also, as said above, I can feel the baby move! Not all the time but there is a difference between gas bubbles and baby kicks!

Have you told your family and friends? Yes, if you don’t know, then I probably don’t know you.

Movement: yup!

Food cravings: I have been a sucker for chicken wings lately. Especially Parmesan garlic ones. Two Wednesdays in a row we went to The Old Rock and had wings. We also made some at home. They were all fantastic! Otherwise I haven’t really been craving much!

Anything make you queasy or sick: I don’t think I’ll be eating Jimmy John’s anytime soon. Ordered a turkey tom Friday for lunch, got it back to the clinic, took my first bite and it tasted hardcore like fish. It was disgusting. I also had an upset stomach most of the weekend. Which could have been related or not, who knows. But it’s like one of those things you just can’t turn back to!

Have you started to show yet? Yes!

Leakage: nope

Gender prediction: still no true feelings of boy or girl, but man oh man everyone seems to say boy! Plus, this must be a year for boys. Almost everyone I know is having a boy! Hopefully I follow suite 🙂 as long as it’s healthy, I’m happy.

Labor signs: no way!

Belly button in or out? halfway out!

Wedding rings on or off? On!

Happy or moody most of the time? I’ve been pretty happy! Tired, but happy.

Weekly Wisdom: protein, protein, protein!

Milestones: feeling movement!

Next Appointment: April 19th! 8:00am Ultrasound! 9:15am Visit with Dr. Nguyen!

Gender Reveal on April 23rd 🙂 Cannot wait!

Let’s Compare!

It’s hard to tell in the picture (Baby #2, right) but I really am quite a bit bigger then I was with Daisee at this point!

Well, since this weather is far from exciting, let’s do a comparison of my pregnancy with Daisee and my pregnancy with Baby Hotmar #2!

I’m a week off, but one week doesn’t make TOO huge of a difference 😀

Baby is the size of an Apple this week! So crazy that in these last 10 weeks my baby has gone from being the size of a grain of rice to an apple! (and funny that we use fruit to compare this). I’m definitely feeling pregnant and not that I’m trying to, but I’m having a harder time not showing it!

How far along? Daisee: 14 weeks 4 days. Baby Hotmar#2: 15 weeks today!

Total weight gain/loss: Daisee: gained 2 pounds. Baby Hotmar#2: gained 2 pounds

Maternity clothes? Daisee: not yet, but may have to look into it for jean wearing! Baby Hotmar#2: I probably could wear maternity pants but am still pretty comfortable in regular jeans!

Stretch marks? Daisee: nope! Baby Hotmar#2: nope!

Sleep: Daisee: every day’s a little different….but sleep doesn’t come easy that’s for sure! Baby Hotmar#2: I would say sleep is pretty easy to come by now! I get up usually once a night with a full bladder but otherwise sleep through the night!

Best Moment this week: Daisee: I’m pretty sure this morning when Dan was getting ready for work, I turned over, got comfy and baby decided to say Hey Mom! I’m really in here!!! It’s hard to tell now since gas has been an issue and it kinda felt the same…but this felt just a little different! Baby Hotmar#2: this week has just started, but not baby related, we had a fun-filled weekend! We went to the Madison Fishing Expo with my sister and the kiddos then to BWW’s (omg amazing!) then Sunday went to a birthday party for my cousin Nolan! In comparison to Daisee, pretty sure I felt movement a few weeks ago, but again, it’s so hard to tell right now if it’s digestion or baby! But I know it’s a mover 🙂

Have you told your family and friends? Both babies: yup! The whole world knows! (or at least those on my Facebook 🙂 )

Movement: Daisee: possibly :). Baby Hotmar#2: most likely!! 😀

Food Cravings (this is the fun one!): Daisee: chicken wings, pizza, anything chocolate ice cream (shakes, ice cream). Baby Hotmar#2: mac n cheese, salt on everything, ketchup! (and if you know me, I NEVER eat ketchup!), Pepsi (naughty!), salad with Italian dressing!

Anything make you queasy or sick: Daisee: umm the smell of pot roast grosses me out. Otherwise just really strong smells sometimes get to me. Baby Hotmar#2: meat is definitely something that isn’t routinely on the top of my most requested foods, but over the last week it’s gotten better! Otherwise my sickness has actually gotten quite a bit better!

Have you started to show yet? Daisee: yup! There’s officially a bump! Not super big, but it’s there! 🙂 Baby Hotmar#2: I’d say I’m definitely bigger at this point of pregnancy with this baby then Daisee, which is pretty normal. I’ve had a bump for a few weeks and can’t deny that I’m pregnant 🙂

Leakage: Both Babies: nope!

Gender prediction: Daisee: just hoping for a healthy baby 🙂 Baby Hotmar#2: still hoping of course for a healthy baby but as far as instincts, I feel boy. But with Daisee I had a feeling she was a girl almost right away and nothing really told me boy! This pregnancy, I haven’t gotten any real, true feelings of boy or girl!

Labor signs: Both Babies: wayyy too early!

Belly button in or out?: Daisee: in. Baby Hotmar#2: starting to come out!

Wedding rings on or off?: Daisee: on. Baby Hotmar#2: on!

Happy or Moody most of the time”: Daisee: mood swings have gotten worse with the second trimester, but I try to stay happy for my sanity 🙂 Baby Hotmar#2: definitely happy! I have my angry times but my mood swings are definitely gone!

Weekly wisdom: Daisee: water, water, water, WATER! Baby Hotmar#2: too much to eat at BWW = long ride home!

Milestones: Daisee: possibly feeling movement! That was an awesome feeling and put a HUGE smile on my face! 🙂 Baby Hotmar#2: finally feeling more energy and more of an appetite in the second trimester!

Next appointments (we’ll just do Baby Hotmar#2 for this): OB appointment with Dr. Nguyen Wednesday.

At this point of my pregnancy, I’d say things are looking somewhat similar. What I can’t get over myself is that I’m a sucker for salt (not really sweets at all) and that ketchup is now something I look for to dip french fries, chicken and even EGGS in!

It’s Facebook official now!

How far along? 13 weeks and 1 day!
Total weight gain/loss: -3 pounds but I’m hoping I will start to gain that back!
Maternity clothes? just pants
Stretch marks? nope
Sleep: lots of tossing and turning at night. vivid dreams have been HORRIBLE!
Best moment this week: 2nd trimester baby!
Have you told family and friends: Yes! It is Facebook official!
Movement: pretty sure I felt a little movement while watching The Walking Dead, but not 100% sure!
Food cravings: Italian dressing on salads or noodles, spicy trail mix, Pepsi!

Have you started to show yet: yes!!! 😀

Total weight gain/loss: 1-2+

Maternity clothes? none yet, but soon!
Stretch marks? Nope
Sleep: sleep has been good, getting up 1-2 times a night to pee. It’s hard to fall asleep after that sometimes but I’ve generally been sleeping good!
Best moment this week: Not this week but last week we’re in the double digits! 😀
Have you told family and friends: Yes!!! Family and friends know! Some people who are outside that window know as well, but that’s ok 🙂

Movement: nope, nothing yet! Much too early
Food cravings: pretzel bites with cheese and anything noodle related!
Anything making you queasy or sick: meat, which was the same with Daisee.
Have you started to show yet: possibly, it’s hard to tell sometimes if it’s bloating though!
Leakage: eww no
Gender prediction: not the slightest clue! I had a dream last night that I was at an event of some sort and you could sit in a sling and it would tell you if you were having a boy or girl! Well when I sat on it, the blue light came on!!

Labor Signs: goodness no!

Belly Button in or out? In.
Wedding rings on or off? on, hoping I can wear it the whole time!
Happy or Moody most of the time: Generally happy
Weekly Wisdom: Saltines, first thing in the morning! Makes for a better day 🙂

Upcoming appointments: next OB 2/15/17, 20 week US 4/19/17!!

What do oranges and raspberries have in common?

Oranges and raspberries have nothing in common (except they’re both fruits)! HA But my uterus is the size of an orange and Baby Hotmar#2 is the size of a raspberry!

How far along? 8 weeks 5 days!
Total weight gain/loss: +2 pounds

Maternity clothes? Not yet, but pants might have to come soon!

Movement: Nope
Food cravings: Cheese chips, bagel with cheese, cottage cheese….do you see a trend?! (which is not a good thing because in pregnancy, your digestive system slooooowwwwssss waaaaay down…..I think you get the just!)
