Hello 2017

Hello! It has been SO long since I’ve posted on here and I am glad to be back for 2 reasons! 1. 2016 is almost over, woohoo! It’s been a crazy year and I think everyone can agree with me on that one!

2. I’m pregnant! Again, WOOHOO! So here we start again with my pregnancy posts and how everything is going along the way!!!

I can imagine that this post will be the most boring post, mostly because a lot of the questions I really can’t answer. But I will try to compare this baby with Daisee and see how the pregnancies are the same and different!

Eviction notice!

How far along? 40 weeks, 2 days

Total weight gain/loss: 24 pounds!

Stretch marks? Still none yet 🙂

Sleep: sleep has been up and down lately. mostly because I’ve been having some contractions since Sunday night. Monday night I was up quite a few times between contractions and using the bathroom. But I think my body is ready for her to come out and is just exhausted!

Best moment this week: last night was our last OB appointment for baby girl Hotmar. Such a bittersweet moment, even though we were hoping to not even be at the appointment…but things of course don’t always go as planned. Probably the hardest thing for me to take in throughout this whole pregnancy. The other awesome moment this week was telling Ava that the next time she comes over, she WILL have a baby sister to hold. She’s so excited for that!

Food cravings: No more cravings. Drumsticks will probably forever be something that I love and enjoy having one after supper to help calm my stomach lol.

Belly Button in or out? belly button is completely out!

Wedding rings on or off? I’ve officially gotten to the point of not being able to wear my wedding ring 😦 which is really hard for me. I haven’t had my ring off my finger for more then a few minutes since we got married….so hopefully soon I will be able to wear it again!

Happy or Moody most of the time: Just tired….haha I’m a pretty happy and laid back person anyways.

Weekly Wisdom: Life will throw you curve balls and you just need to go with the flow. Going past my due date with no baby was obviously something I didn’t want to happen, or had hoped that it wouldn’t happen. I also originally didn’t want to get my membranes stripped, but went with it because things were progressing in my eyes. Knowing that in the end, baby girl will be here, is something that I just need to keep my mind on. I can’t wait to meet her and hold her tight!

Next appointment: Induction, Tuesday December 16th….7:00pm. The end is near

Watermelon Smuggler

That’s right! We’re on the very last fruit to compare the size of the baby to….a WATERMELON!

Weight: 6.3-8.5lbs

Height: 19-21″

How far along? 36 weeks today!!!

Total weight gain/loss: +20 pounds!

Stretch marks? Still none yet 🙂

Sleep: I’ve basically gotten to a point where I’m waking up 2-3 times a night to use the bathroom, otherwise I sleep pretty good! Minus this last Saturday…but that’s mostly because Ava slept next to me since Dan was gone. Let’s just say I’m glad I had my body pillow to protect me from the crazy sleeper that Ava is 🙂

Best moment this week: I think the best thing this week is just knowing that we start our weekly appointments this week! Basically, baby girl could come anytime in the next 2-5 weeks! Just crazy that time flew by so fast! Another exciting thing since my last post was meeting baby Grace! Such an adorable little girl and her mommy and daddy are doing great! Dan and I also had our first wedding anniversary last weekend! We went on just a mini vacation to Prairie Du Chien and Dubuque. We did quite a bit of driving, but it was well worth it. Seeing all the beautiful countryside was awesome. It was really nice to get away one last time before baby girl comes 🙂

Food cravings: Drumsticks are still big on my list of have to have that, but lately, I’ve been on a tootsie roll pop kick!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Dan and I went on a mini vacation for our one year anniversary and we stopped at a store that sells smoked fish and other things, I walked out of that place just about as fast as I walked in. Apparently the fishy smell wasn’t something I would normally be able to stand! haha. But otherwise I can eat anything basically and be around anything without it making me queasy!

Belly Button in or out? I would say it’s about halfway out…sometimes you can see a little bit of it through my shirt, but othertimes not so much. I’m sure in these next couple weeks it will make it’s debut haha

Wedding rings on or off? If I’m really warm and retaining water, then I have to take it off for a little while just until I cool off, but otherwise I just always wear it.

Happy or Moody most of the time: I’m definitely happier, but don’t piss me off…cus you won’t win!

Weekly Wisdom: I’m not sure that I have any this week! Maybe just don’t sleep next to your 6 year old step daughter who likes to let you know many times through the night that she’s there? Haha!

Milestones: Baby showers, Wedding Anniversary, Last fruit to compare her size to, weekly appointments!!!

Next appointments: Dr. Weston tomorrow then Joan on Wednesday! After that, it’s weekly appointments for me 🙂

My Birth PLAN

I wanted to start off this post with a quote that really put into perspective why a birth plan is more then necessary.

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail” -Ben Franklin

That quote is so very important when it comes to making a birth plan and following through with doing that. There are so many sites online now that help you create a birth plan and tell you what things you definitely want to put in there so you aren’t making a big decision at, what could be, a very stressful time.

So here is my birth PLAN. I emphasize the plan in that because it’s just that, my plan. By creating this, I have a benchmark of what I would like to do when it comes time for Baby Hotmar to make her arrival. I’m going in with an open mind to whatever may come my way! But by at least preparing for this extremely huge day, I can place in my mind that this what I want to do and if I put my mind to it, I can do it! (so long as baby girl is doing fine!)

My main goal of labor and delivery is basically to do just what a women’s body is meant to do, give birth. I will be doing things as naturally as I possibly can to try to avoid any types of complications with medications as well as recovering faster and in my normal state of mind. (with a little stress and pain to add to that).

So, below is my birth plan. Please feel free to use the basis of the birth plan for yourself, just know that I am not a medical professional, at least no more then a Medical Assistant. I love feedback but please don’t discourage me to do what I feel completely comfortable with and have been preparing for since I found out I was pregnant.

Thank you!

To: Caregivers at St. Mary’s Hospital, Obstetrical nursing staff of St. Mary’s Hospital
From:  Mother and Father

We have chosen to give birth at the maternity ward of St. Mary’s Hospital because of their outstanding facility and great staff.  We are requesting your help to attain our goals and have a happy, healthy birth. In the event of complications, we will give our full cooperation after an informed discussion with the doctor and private consideration between mother and father.

  • Before and during admission/labor, we would like no visitors. After delivery is complete and we are comfortable with visitors coming, we would only like Deb and Dennis Hotmar, Robin Hook, Scott and Lynn Graff, Denise and Nick Hauptli, and Victoria Graff to be able to visit us. Margaret Romano will also be coming to take my placenta for encapsulation.

First Stage of Labor:

  • Those to be present at all times at the labor and birth Dan Hotmar
  • I would like to labor at home as long as possible and request the option to return home if I arrive at less than 5 cm dilated.
  • I would like to have my birthing ball, hot pack and back massager and request to have showers and tub for pain relief when desired. I will also be using acupressure, breathing techniques/distractions and hypnobirth during this phases of labor.
  • If IV is deemed necessary, please use a heparin lock so that I can move around and walk as needed. Please help to remind me to stay hydrated.
  • Please no internal fetal monitoring unless emergency arises.
  • Vaginal exams only upon consent and as few as possible to avoid rupture of membranes
  • Please no pitocin or breaking of water unless deemed medically necessary
  • No analgesia or anesthesia unless requested.
  • Freedom to move and walk during labor.
  • Quiet room, no excess staff please. We will have music playing during the entire labor stages.

Second Stage Labor :

  • Choice of position for pushing; please no stirrups
  • Mother will need assistance with when to push, please remind her.
  • No episiotomy, please
  • If delivery assistance is needed, please use suction instead of forceps.
  • Please place baby on mother’s abdomen after birth, unless medical intervention is necessary.
  • Cord to be cut by father, after pulsing stops
  • Breastfeed immediately to help birth placenta – no pitocin, uterine massage, or pulling of cord please
  • Keep lights low
  • If stitching is necessary, please use local anesthetic.
  • Placenta will be kept for encapsulation, please place the placenta in container with ice packs so it can be taken by Margaret Romano.

Third Stage Labor:

  • Newborn to stay with parents at all times; no nursery visits please
  • Please delay all routine exams for one hour to allow for bonding time.
  • Please perform all physical exams and procedures in room with parents.
  • If warming is needed, baby is to be placed on mother’s chest with blankets.
  • Breastfeeding only: no bottles, pacifiers, artificial nipples, formula, or water
  • Father to stay with baby and mother at all times

We thank you in advance for your support and kind attention to our choices. We look forward to a wonderful birth.

NOTE: In the event of a c-section, I would like Dan Hotmar to be present. Please let the baby remain with mother until stitched up and ready to be moved to recovery.

Honey dew you want to get me a Drumstick?

Yum, Honey Dew! Baby girl is about the size of a honey dew and is gaining about 1/2 lb. every week!!!

Weight: 4.2-5.8 lbs

Height: 17-18″ from crown to heel 🙂

How far along? 32 weeks!

Total weight gain/loss: +15 lbs 🙂

Stretch marks? Still none yet 🙂

Sleep: depends on the day really. I’ve been having some wicked hip cramps on whatever side I lay on when I first fall asleep. But usually I just wake up once a night to use the bathroom. I’ve been drinking a full glass of water about 1 hour before bed plus drinking my Pregnancy Tea and that seems to help with the cramps, they are less frequent if I do that.

Best moment this week: Best thing this week, by far, my first baby shower!!! I got soooo much good stuff! Baby girl got 26 books, plus lots of other stuff! Daddy is getting really excited now because I think it’s hitting him that time is flying and baby girl will be here before we know it! We’ve also got her room basically painted and put together! Just needs some finishing touches and some decorations!!!! Then I will be in my nesting phase and will get to organize all her stuff and get ready for her arrival 🙂 🙂

Food cravings: Oh man, Drumsticks have been my weakness lately…nothing will substitute it either. Last night, at about 9:15pm, Dan and I had to go to Kwik Trip because I wanted one so bad! But otherwise, sometimes I will see a sign or commercial and go mmm that sounds good!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Haven’t had anymore issues with that! Thank goodness!

Have you started to show yet: FINALLY people besides those who know I’m pregnant are noticing. Such a great feeling! I’m still told that I’m little for how far I am, but that’s okay! I’m okay with that! My doctor said I will probably just gain about 20 lbs unless I start packing on the weight in these last few months. But I don’t see that happening. I’ve been eating pretty good (minus of course the Drumsticks). haha

Belly Button in or out? still in, but man, it’s seriously getting pretty darn close!

Wedding rings on or off? I don’t ever really take it off 🙂

Happy or Moody most of the time: I’m definitely happier, but don’t piss me off…cus you won’t win!

Weekly Wisdom: Have crib or pack n’ play ready for storage of shower stuff after the shower…unless the nursery is all set up!

Milestones: First baby shower 🙂

Next appointments: Dr. Weston today!

10 more weeks :)

images  10339558_10204206942005922_5746729995673554125_nIMG_2082

We are the size of a Winter Squash from now until 32 weeks!

Weight: 2.5-3.8lbs

Height: 15-17″ from crown to heel 🙂

How far along? 30 weeks today!

Total weight gain/loss: +14 lbs 🙂

Stretch marks? Still none yet 🙂

Sleep: and so starts the waking up (what seems like) a million times every night. Mostly due to hip pain from laying on that side. Plus one or two times to use the restroom. But otherwise, I’ve been getting up around 7:00am on the weekends and feeling good and ready to get up (which if you knew me before I was pregnant, I could sleep until noon if I tried)

Best moment this week: I think the past few weeks, the best things that have happened are deciding that we are going to live in our house for a while (less stress), Dan’s mom feeling baby girl kick, and just starting to get the nursery ready. This all is becoming so real, so fast! Before I know it, the best moment of the week will be holding her in my arms for the first time 😉

Food cravings: No real cravings anymore…once and a while, if I see something on tv, I’ll say man I could go for a snickers or whatever the commercial is for. But I don’t ever feel like I have to have it.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Haven’t had anymore issues with that! Thank goodness!

Have you started to show yet: there is finally a bump there that would tell almost anyone that I’m pregnant! But I still get the “you don’t look like you’re 30 weeks!” One person even told me one time that I didn’t look like I was gaining enough weight…she said she likes fat pregnant women. Well….I’m okay with where I am as long as she’s growing like she should.

Belly Button in or out? it’s getting pretty flat!!!

Wedding rings on or off? I don’t ever really take it off 🙂

Happy or Moody most of the time: I’m definitely happier, but don’t piss me off…cus you won’t win!

Weekly Wisdom: smaller meals=happier tummy

Milestones: Finally getting a video of the little peanut making my belly move!

Next appointments: Dr. Weston on 10/2 🙂

27 weeks and no GD!

photo 2photo 1

HELLO THIRD TRIMESTER!!!!!! Goodbye belly button!

We’re still the size of a papaya 🙂

How far along? 27 weeks today!

Total weight gain/loss: +12 lbs 🙂

Maternity clothes? definitely. I can’t wear my work scrubs anymore! So now they’ve got me wearing Trek gear 🙂

Stretch marks? None yet 🙂

Sleep: I’ve been having a harder time falling asleep but usually once I’m out, I just wake up once/twice to use the restroom!

Best moment this week: this actually happened last week, but I found out that I DON’T have gestational diabetes! Woohoo! When I did the 1 hour glucose test, my results came back borderline, so I had to do the 3 hour glucose test..which is not very fun! Not only did I have to be 12 hours fasting…but I also had to wait another 3 hours after fasting that long before I could eat anything! The drink was thicker, but didn’t taste a whole lot different. Thank goodness, I didn’t have any issues with the drink or waiting the three hours. I actually slept my last hour that I had to wait 🙂 Otherwise, baby girl is getting more and more active every day! Sometimes I swear she could just kick her way out of there!

Food cravings: My cravings have settled down quite a bit. I haven’t really had any big cravings anymore. But I am able to eat basically everything again which is awesome! But I guess we will see what the third trimester will bring us!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing right now, knock on wood!

Have you started to show yet: for sure! Finally look pregnant in almost everything I wear! (which is mostly because it’s all getting tight) 😛

Belly Button in or out? we’re getting close to being completely out!

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: I’m definitely happier, but don’t piss me off…cus you won’t win!

Weekly Wisdom: don’t eat a bunch of fruit the day you’re going to get your 1 hour glucose testing done…you’re just asking for trouble!

Milestones: Third and last trimester! Woohoo!!!

Next appointments: Dr. Weston on 9/15! Then after that I will be starting my every other week visits!!! This is all becoming super real 🙂 🙂

24 weeks and 3 days!

24 papayacucumber

Our baby girl is the size of a papaya 🙂 By the end of this week, she will be around 1.46 lbs. and 13.62″ long! My fruits are starting to last 2-3 weeks, so by 28 weeks, she will be about 2.2 lbs and 15″ long! (by the way, I’ve got 3 fruit sizes left until she’s born!!!)

Less then 16 weeks left!!! SOOOOO crazy to think that!

How far along? 24 weeks, 3 days 🙂 our little peanut is getting bigger and bigger every day!

Total weight gain/loss: +10 lbs 🙂

Maternity clothes? yes, I tried wearing a pair of jean capris that weren’t maternity…yeah not so good! I even had a rubberband holding the button closed.

Stretch marks? None yet 🙂

Sleep: Knock on wood! I have been sleeping pretty well lately! Still kind of tired during the day, but usually 8:00pm comes around and I’m wiped!

Best moment this week: Our biggest excitement lately is that Ava was able to feel her sister last weekend!! It was such an awesome thing! She’s like “Ali what are you doing with my hand?” I was like “Don’t you want to feel your sister kick?” Then she sat super still!

Food cravings: anything cucumber, still 🙂 Otherwise, I’ve finally been able to eat normal! I have even had chicken, oh yeah!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing right now, knock on wood!

Have you started to show yet: For sure! Still don’t look very pregnant when I’m in my black scrubs, but the PA I work with can definitely tell.

Belly Button in or out? still somewhat in. It’s getting really flat though!

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: I’m definitely happier, but don’t piss me off…cus you won’t win!

Weekly Wisdom: Heat womps when pregnant.

Milestones: Ava being able to feel her little sister kick 🙂 she will be such an amazing big sister!

Next appointments: Next appointment with Dr. Weston is 8/25 🙂 (and it’s gestational diabetes check time) :-\

22 weeks :)

Photo Jul 28, 8 36 48 AMPhoto Jul 28, 8 36 58 AM

18 weeks until we meet out little GIRL! Don’t mind my work belly selfie 🙂 She’s the size of an eggplant and will just get bigger and bigger every week!!! She weighs a little over a pound and is about 11.38″ long!

How far along? 22 weeks!!! Things have definitely been flying by already!

Total weight gain/loss: gained 8 pounds 🙂

Maternity clothes? yup! jeans and shorts! I wear the maternity shirts but don’t necessarily NEED them. But hey, they’re comfy 🙂

Stretch marks? None yet 🙂

Sleep: Sleep is becoming less and less of a thing that I actually get….it’s kind of irritating me!

Best moment this week: Well I haven’t updated for 2 weeks 🙂 so last week, of course we were so happy to find out that we’re having a GIRL! The ultrasound and everything went amazing! (minus that we were a few minutes late) hehe But every part of our little girl is just perfect right now! All her measurements were great. We even got to see her kidneys, stomach, femur, and where the umbilical cord inserts 🙂 We definitely have a hyper little girl on our hands too! She just would not stay still during the exam! It was kind of hard to even find out what her gender was! I asked the tech to let me try and guess what the gender was, which it was pretty darn obvious what she was when they pulled it up (which before we told people what the gender was, I stumped some some people when I said it was really obvious :)) hehe Otherwise, everything has been good on the homestead!

Food cravings: anything cucumber, still 🙂 had a big craving last night (and still have it) for an Eggo Waffle with butter and syrup!

Anything making you queasy or sick: OMG my whole protein factor has done a complete flip (I think). I totally ate chicken over the weekend and it was amazing!!!!! So as of right now, nothing really makes me queasy or sick! I’ve always been a weird texture person so if something has a weird texture, I have a hard time eating it.

Have you started to show yet: no doubt there! I can’t hide it anymore 🙂 haha not that I really was! But I’m still told once and a while that I don’t look 22 weeks pregnant!

Belly Button in or out? still in but it’s getting flatter 🙂

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: I’ve been getting happier and happier, I think mostly because life, in general, it just great!

Weekly Wisdom: even going to the bathroom right before you go to bed doesn’t help with the 2am wake up call to pee!

Milestones: Finding out the gender and see her move around in there! It was so much fun knowing, and somehow keeping myself from telling the whole world until Ava knew! She found out Friday and was soooo exctied!

Next appointments: Next appointment with Dr. Weston is 8/25 🙂
